“EWOK’s work transforms graffiti writing into a sustained exploration of structure, movement, texture, and color, pushing the letter beyond language and into painting.”
— Joe Ellis Art
George Thompson is a California-based painter, muralist, designer, and graffiti writer originally from Memphis and raised in Milwaukee. Emerging from the Minneapolis graffiti movement of the early 1990s, Thompson became a founding member of HM (Heavy Metal) and later an influential member of internationally recognized crews AWR and MSK.
Over the last three decades, EWOK has developed a distinct visual language that merges highly rendered letterforms, abstraction, texture, and color into complex painterly compositions. Working across walls, canvas, paper, and commercial design, his practice bridges graffiti writing and contemporary painting while remaining deeply rooted in the formal discipline of the letter.
