Description:

We learned from ESPO in The Art of Getting Over, there are two ways the work survives: the flick & the story.

This print is both.

Originally produced in 2013–2014, source material: SHOCK’s interview & spread in Anonymous Magazine (Issue #3), this early graphic work compiles the artists original flicks of freight, transit systems, and walls across the U.S. Each layer was separated in CMYK and screen printed by SHOCK in his early Twin Cities print laboratory (2013-2016), at a time when SHOCK had already established a national reputation for the work he was putting in.

This edition was never released. Never shown publicly. Until now.

Each print is hand signed and numbered by the artist, and stamped with the official SHOCK ARCHIVE mark on the reverse.

These are not pristine publisher editions. They are artist-made prints, pulled directly from the studio, each bearing  imperfections like fingerprints, pinholes, and slight creases. These variations are not flaws, but the visible memory of the artist’s hand and process. More than a reproduction, this print is a record of movement, of style, of a time. It reflects a lived history of mark-making that shaped the artist, and the imprint he's left on the cities he’s moved through.

Screen printing has long been central to SHOCK’s practice, first learned at St. Paul Central High School (1999), and later taught at Juxtaposition Arts (2014). For SHOCK, the screen print is inseparable from the tag, the burner, the object transformed. Whether it’s paper, copper, or fabric, the mark is always unmistakably KOOL SHOCK.

This release marks the beginning of a series presented by Joe Ellis Art and the artist,  highlighting a body of screen printed works from SHOCK’s prolific early studio years.

The story continues.
