Description (Joe Ellis intro)
So the story goes, the early print studio ran from 2013-2016 in the old Acrylic Factory in Northeast Minneapolis. I never had the chance to visit, but looking at the body of work produced there, and at my friend, this is what I see:
Shock is never one-dimensional. The artist is fighting an invisible war few can name but all can feel - a war of language itself. Liberation of the letter. Reclamation of meaning. Ancient, instinctual.
Each print carried double meanings, figurative or literal, a critique wrapped in familiarity. This is not new. Radical presses have always existed. What’s significant is that by 2013, Shock had already forged a studio practice that felt inevitable — not in a single breakthrough, but a lived rhythm where painting, print, and life blurred together into one continuous gesture. For him, screen printing carries the same immediacy as graffiti or painting in the studio: ink mixed, screen flooded, image pulled.
A gesture made permanent.
The process before is the process now.
