George R. Thompson IV (EWOK HM MSK)

"I'm just trying to make things that I think are visually interesting. Maybe beautiful."

George R. Thompson IV (EWOK HM AWR MSK) is an American painter, muralist, graphic designer, and graffiti writer whose work has helped define the visual language of contemporary graffiti for more than three decades. A founding member of HM (Heavy Metal) and later an internationally recognized member of AWR (Art Work Rebels) and MSK (Mad Society Kings), Thompson has developed one of the most distinctive approaches to letter-based painting to emerge from American graffiti. Rooted in the formal discipline of the letter while continually expanding its possibilities, his practice moves fluidly between graffiti, abstraction, and contemporary painting through works on paper, canvas, murals, and public commissions. Thompson lives and works in California.
